The Living room!

I never use exclamation marks when I name my blogposts, but this deserved one. Because the couch is downstairs! The living room is not finished yet (we need to think about shelves, cabinets and curtains) but having a couch is the biggest renovation milestone we had in years.

Combining vintage with design and handmade objects is what I love. I choose a soft colour palette as a base and I think it works pretty well.

Uitroeptekens zet ik eigenlijk nooit achter de namen van blogposts, maar deze verdiende het. De bank staat namelijk beneden! De woonkamer is nog niet naar mijn zin (we moeten nog denken over kastjes, planken, gordijnen) maar het hebben van een bank beneden is een van de grootste verbouw-mijlpalen van de afgelopen jaren.

Ik houd ervan om tweedehands spullen te combineren met design en handgemaakte spullen. Ik koos een zacht kleurenpalet als basis en vind dat mooi werken in deze kamer.

The wall

The renovation of our living room downstairs is on track, but until it is really finished, our living room is in the attic. That is why I choose to decorate the wall upstairs for one last time.

Onze woonkamer beneden begint steeds meer vorm aan te nemen, maar totdat deze echt klaar is wonen we nog op zolder. Daarom koos ik ervoor om de wand voor een laatste keer opnieuw te decoreren.

Qazqa

A few months ago I worked together with Anki from Zilverblauw on an advertising campaign for lighting brand Qazqa. Doing this shoot was amazing (you all know about my soft spot for lamps – pun intended). I was asked to choose some interior items that describe me best and to choose my favourite lamp from their collection. Clean and bold shapes fit me best so I choose the Pendant Lamp ball 50. I never imagined 50 centimeters in diameter would be this HUGE but I love it when a lamp makes a statement. Have a look at the Qazqa-website to check out the result of the styling shoot we did.

The lamp is hanging in our attic now and it is the perfect spot for it. It is pretty big but the space can take it and it gives a soft light to the room. It feels like having the moon inside of my home.

Een paar maanden geleden werkte ik met Anki van Zilverblauw aan een reclamecampagne voor lampenmerk Qazqa. Het was erg leuk om deze shoot te doen (jullie kennen mijn zwakte voor lampen..). Ik ben gevraagd een aantal interieurobjecten te groeperen die mij het beste omschrijven en mocht mijn favoriete lamp uit de collectie kiezen. Strakke en krachtige vormen passen het best bij mij en daarom koos ik de Pendant Lamp ball 50. Ik had nooit bedacht dat een diameter van 50 centimeter zo ENORM zou zijn maar ik hou ervan als een lamp een statement maakt. Kijk op de Qazqa-website om het resultaat van de styling shoot die we deden te zien.

De lamp hangt nu op onze zolder en dat is een perfecte plaats. Hij is behoorlijk groot maar deze ruimte kan dat prima hebben (we hebben een flinke nok) en de lamp geeft een mooi zacht schijnsel. Het voelt alsof de maan nu bij mij binnen hangt.

Furs

The last couple of months I saw a reoccurring theme in my Pinterest-pins: fluffy, warm and pastel. So I searched at Etsy and found this sweet little shop Cloud Hunter with the loveliest sheepskins in all kinds of colours. Because my living room will be finished in a few weeks I decided to treat myself and the cats to a minty green and pink one.

De afgelopen maanden zag ik een rode draad in mijn Pinterest-pins: zacht, warm en pastel. Toen ik zocht op Etsy vond ik Cloud Hunter met prachtige schapenvellen in allerlei kleuren. Omdat mijn woonkamer over niet al te lange tijd af is vond ik het tijd om mezelf en mijn katten te verwennen met een mintgroene én een roze.

White berries

These white berries make me think about my childhood. I loved walking around by myself and stopping at bushes with roses, hazelnuts or these little white berries. I really liked the look of them. And to be honest, I liked to step on them too, it felt almost like pinching in bubble wrap.

Most items on the table are thrift store finds (the marble plate I found at a loppis in Sweden for example!), the little white vase is made by Lenneke Wispelwey (it is the lid of this vase), the grey flowerpot and coaster I bought at Lagerhaus and the small pink plate is by Ferm Living.

Deze kleine witte besjes doen me denken aan mijn jeugd. Ik hield ervan om in mijn eindje in de buurt te wandelen en te stoppen bij rozenstruiken, hazelnoten te rapen of struiken met deze besjes te bekijken. Ik vond de besjes altijd erg mooi. Maar om eerlijk te zijn vond ik het het allerleukst om ze kapot te stampen, het voelde een beetje als bubbeltjesplastic kapot knijpen.

De meeste van deze spullen vond ik in de kringloop (het marmeren plaatje vond ik bijvoorbeeld in een Zweedse loppis!), het kleine witte vaasje is van Lenneke Wispelwey (het is de deksel van deze vaas), de grijzen bloempot en onderzetter kocht ik bij Lagerhaus en de kleine roze snijplank is van Ferm Living.

Update

It’s been a while, since my last blog post. I’ve missed blogging a lot, but I needed to prioritize. The last couple of months we worked hard in our house (we’ve placed architraves and skirting boards and the wood work in the living room needed a lot of love and attention: we’ve been filling holes, sanding, painting, filling holes, sanding, painting. I never realized our living room had this many doors and windows!) and we enjoyed summer, both in the Netherlands and in Sweden. The next couple of weeks will be busy too, but bear with me, in a few weeks I hope to be able to show you my living room!

The vases are by Lenneke Wispelwey (they come as a set, so you have three vases in one, isn’t that genius?), the grey basket is from Ferm Living and I got it from Anki in exchange of a night of sushi eating (best deal ever) and the small table is a thrift find I painted pink. The black and copper baskets are from H&M and the jug is by Stelton.

Mijn laatste blogpost is alweer een tijdje geleden. Ik heb het gemist, bloggen, maar moest even prioriteiten stellen. De afgelopen maanden hebben we hard gewerkt aan ons huis (architraven en plinten zijn geplaatst en we hebben heel veel bloed, zweet en tranen gestopt in al het houtwerk: plamuren, schuren, gronden, plamuren, schuren, gronden. Ik besef nu pas hoeveel deuren, ramen en kozijnen we wel niet in de woonkamer hebben!) en we hebben genoten van de zomer, hier in Nederland en in Zweden. De komende weken moeten we nog heel veel doen, maar hou nog even vol, over een paar weken hoop ik jullie mijn woonkamer te kunnen laten zien!

De vazen zijn van Lenneke Wispelwey (het is een set, de kleine past in de grote, dus eigenlijk heb je drie vazen, is dat niet gaaf?), de grijze mand is van Ferm Living en ik kreeg hem van Anki in ruil voor sushi (best deal ever) en het kleine tafeltje vond ik op een rommelmarkt en schilderde ik roze. De zwarte en koperen mandjes zijn van H&M en de kan is van Stelton.

ixxi

A while ago ixxi contacted me and asked me if I was interested in doing a review of one of their products for my blog. I love their products and style so I said yes, but it turned out to be very difficult to choose a subject. I mean, when you can do whatever you like, choices can be overwhelming for a perfectionist like me. In the end I decided to make one for the bath room, because an ixxi is made of synthetic paper and can be hung in a damp space. I choose a analogue picture from the ones I made from blossom trees this spring. I didn’t want a simple picture, because I wanted to enhance the shape of the square tiles, so I’ve added some triangles.

Uploading the picture was pretty easy (except for the fact that I wanted to align the triangles to the squares, but when I worked out how it was possible, it went fine) and I was amazed at how fast they could print and deliver it. Placing it on the wall was a piece of cake. I am really happy how it turned out and want to thank the nice people at ixxi for letting me discover their product!

Een tijd geleden vroeg ixxi me of ik een review wilde doen van een van hun producten voor mijn blog. Ik hou van hun producten en stijl dus zei meteen ja, maar het bleek toch lastig om te kiezen wát ik nou wilde. Je bent een perfectionist of je bent het niet. Uiteindelijk besloot ik de ixxi te maken voor de badkamer, omdat hij is gemaakt van synthetisch papier en dus prima in een vochtige ruimte kan hangen. Ik koos een analoge foto die ik afgelopen lente maakte van bloesem bomen. Ik wilde geen simpele afbeelding, want ik wilde de vierkante vorm van de tegels benadrukken en voegde driehoeken toe.

Het uploaden van de foto’s ging erg makkelijk (behalve dan dat ik de driehoeken precies gelijk wilde krijgen met de tegeltjes, maar toen ik eenmaal door had hoe ik dat doen moest, was het zo gebeurd) en ik was verbaasd hoe snel ze het geprint en bij mij afgeleverd hadden. Ophangen was helemaal een makkie. Ik ben erg blij met het eindresultaat en wil de lieve mensen van ixxi heel erg bedanken voor het feit dat ik hun product mocht ontdekken!

Photo shoot

A few weeks ago my friends Anki and Casper asked me whether I was interested in working with them and a client on an advertising campaign. They wanted to shoot some pictures at my home, using my belongings. Of course I said yes! We’ve painted the floor (it needs some more coats of paint, but it’s a start), painted skirting boards, mounted some power points and I gathered way too much stuff. In the end the photographer used big white sheets, so our hard work was all for nothing. Ah well!

You can see a behind the scenes picture at my instagram feed and the end result will be online next fall. I will be sure to let you know when it airs!

Een paar weken geleden vroegen Anki en Casper me of ik met hen en een klant wilde werken aan een nieuwe reclame-campagne. Ze wilden wat foto’s schieten bij mij in huis, van mijn spullen. Natuurlijk deed ik mee! We hebben van tevoren de vloer geschilderd (er moeten nog wat lagen op, maar het is een begin), schilderden wat plinten, monteerden stopcontacten en ik verzamelde veel teveel spullen om mee te stylen. De fotograaf bleek een groot wit laken te gebruiken, dus ons harde werk bleek voor niets. Maar ach!

Op mijn instagram feed zie je een achter-de-schermen-foto en het eindresultaat zal online komen in het najaar. Ik laat het jullie zeker weten!

Hydrangea

My mother in law let me cut some pretty hydrangea-flowers from their garden. They have quite some bushes that are beautifully in bloom so I didn’t have to feel guilty.

As you can see, the walls are finished, but we still have a lot to do downstairs. The wall sockets need to be placed, we don’t have skirting boards in place and the floor is covered with protection foil. But the cats already feel quite at home.

Mijn schoonmoeder liet me deze prachtige hortensia-bloemen plukken in hun tuin. Gelukkig hebben zij veel struiken staan die allemaal prachtig in bloei staan, zodat ik me niet schuldig hoef te voelen.

Zoals je kunt zien zijn de muren in de woonkamer echt klaar, maar moeten we echt nog wel veel doen. We hebben nog geen stopcontacten, de plinten zijn nog niet geplaatst en de vloer ligt onder een dikke laag beschermfolie. Toch voelen de katten zich er best wel thuis.

White walls / Pink skies

While the weather in the Netherlands was pretty unstable the last couple of weeks (we have had lots of rain and thunder storms but also quite some sun) we have been working really hard in our home. All of a sudden the walls in our future living room are white! We’ve spray-painted everything and my T. felt like Heisenberg. It was pretty fun.

Terwijl het weer in Nederland de afgelopen weken nogal wisselend was (met al die regen en storm, maar ook best veel zon) hebben we hard gewerkt in ons huis. Ineens zijn alle muren in onze toekomstige woonkamer wit! We hebben de muren gespoten en mijn T. voelde zich als Heisenberg. Best leuk, deze klus.
