The kitchen (for now)

This is our kitchen, for now. Our renovation will take a few years, so we wanted to have a temporary kitchen, with room for tables, chairs and cooking. Thankfully the old kitchen was pretty sturdy and could be placed in this room without a problem. This room is filled with daylight, so I am pretty happy with it. | Enigheid

And yes, even more picture of me, in my weekday attire. My 3 year old daughter is an aspiring photographer (and princess, and superhero, and cat) and while I rarely look good on photo’s, I love to model for her. Her magnificent cat-jacket is made by Jeanique, by the way.

Dit is onze keuken. Niet voor altijd, maar voor de komende tijd. We wilden graag wat ruimtes in huis die we af konden sluiten, waar de dagelijkse dingen gewoon doorgang kunnen vinden. Gelukkig zat er een stevige keuken in het huis, die we konden verplaatsen naar de kamer waar straks de technische ruimte en voorraad komt. Heel fijn, het is er licht en ruim dus we kunnen er ook onze eettafel kwijt.

En ja, weer wat foto’s van mezelf, in mijn zondagse kloffie. Ik sta niet vaak goed op foto’s, maar voor mijn driejarige fotograaf in de dop (en prinses, superheld, kat) sta ik graag model. Ik moet zeggen, het is Maan toch weer gelukt om me leuk op de foto te krijgen. Haar geweldige katten-jas is gemaakt door Jeanique (en pssst, ze maakt ook op bestelling).

No glamour shots or polished interior shots on my blog just yet. This is the current situation at our home in the woods: it’s a building site, full of building material and dust. That doesn’t stop us from enjoying the space and, especially, the garden. Spring has never been more welcome in our lives. We enjoy every ray of sun to the fullest, are amazed by all the flowers that pop up everywhere and try to keep track of all the birds and their potential nests.

Voorlopig nog geen prachtig ingerichte ruimtes of perfecte interieur-plaatjes op mijn blog. Dit is hoe de situatie nu is, in ons huis in de bossen: een bouwplaats met vooral veel bouwmateriaal en stof. Dit houdt ons niet tegen om keihard te genieten van de ruimte binnen en vooral buiten. Lente is nog nooit zo welkom geweest. We genieten van elk straaltje zon in deze tuin, zijn elke keer als we er zijn weer verbaasd door de mooie lentebloemen die overal op ploppen en doen ons best om alle vogeltjes in de gaten te houden die plekjes aan het zoeken zijn om nestjes te bouwen.

Renovating (or ‘meten is weten’)

Our renovation journey is another drastic one. This room where T. and Maan are playing is the room where our temporary kitchen will be. | Enigheid

Here are some pictures of the flooring in our new home. We choose concrete, because we like the fact that it has a smooth but also a rough feel to it. We like the natural look of the concrete pattern. In these pictures it is darker than the end result, because it wasn’t completely dry yet. It’s very nice to have these pictures of a while ago, to keep reminding ourselves of the progress we’ve made the last couple of months.

As you can see, Maan loves the one step stairs, it’s the perfect seat for a toddler. She helps her dad where she can and likes to measuring everything. In Dutch we say ‘meten is weten’ (to measure is to know) and she shouted: 46! 23! 46! 2!

Hier zijn wat foto’s van de vloer in ons nieuwe huis. We kozen voor beton, omdat we een strakke basis wilden, met toch een ruwe en natuurlijke uitstraling. Het natuurlijke patroon dat beton heeft en de onverwachte scheurtjes en plekjes, laten de vloer leven, vinden wij. Deze foto’s zijn van even geleden, hier is de vloer nog niet helemaal droog en daardoor wat donkerder dan nu. Sowieso is de vloer alweer volledig afgedekt, want er wordt nog veel rotzooi gemaakt en we willen hem zoveel mogelijk beschermen. Het is fijn om af en toe terug te kijken op foto’s, want je vergeet zo snel hoeveel hard werk er al niet verzet is.

Zoals je ziet had Maan als snel door dat de enige drempel in het huis, perfect is om even te zitten. Als we op de zondagen samen in het nieuwe huisje zijn, helpt Maan haar vader graag met klussen, onder andere door alles even op te meten. Ze roept dan: 46! 23! 46! 2! Meten is weten natuurlijk.

Three!

Today is Maan’s birthday, she turned three! She was ill with the chicken pox all week so we weren’t sure whether she would be up to a party, but she enjoyed it very much. We invited our close family to our new home and it turned out to be the perfect party location.

I have a three year old kid now, I can hardly imagine. She is brave, tough, funny and curious. And on top of that, she is such a kind soul. We feel so blessed.

Vandaag is Maan jarig, ze is drie! Ze heeft de hele week al last van de waterpokken dus we waren bang dat haar feestje in het water zou vallen (pun intended) maar ze was net op tijd wat opgeknapt en heeft enorm genoten. We nodigden de familie uit in ons nieuwe huis en hoewel het nog niet bewoonbaar is, bleek het de perfecte feestlocatie.

Ik heb ineens een driejarig kind zeg, ongelooflijk. Ze is dapper, sterk, vasthoudend, grappig en nieuwsgierig. En daar bovenop is ze ook nog eens ontzettend lief. Wat een geluk.

The past months were pretty hectic, with hardly any time to do basic things, let alone blogging or instagramming. Here you see why. We planned to start with some essential things, but ended up with total demolition. And so our home in the woods went from retro heaven to the biggest sand box Maan had ever seen.

This renovation is quite the project, yet again. And since we already sold our former home on the 1st of October, we have been staying with our parents since. T. and I live separate, Maan alternating from one place to another. It is a serious luxury that we have a place to stay during the first part of our renovation, but living apart is pretty hard too. But we keep our eyes on the prize!

De afgelopen maanden waren nogal hectisch, met amper tijd voor de gewone dingen, laat staan voor bloggen of instagrammen. Hier zie je waarom. We waren van plan om te beginnen met het hoogstnodige, maar het eindigde in overal zand, stof en puin. Zo ging ons mooie huis in het bos van retro paleis naar de grootste zandbak die Maan ooit had gezien.

Deze verbouwing is (weer) een enorm project. En omdat ons oude huis verkocht is sinds 1 oktober, logeren we bij onze ouders. T. en ik leven tijdelijk gescheiden en Maan hopt van de ene opa en oma naar de andere. Het is luxe dat dit kan tijdens het eerste deel van onze verbouwing, maar apart van elkaar leven is ook enorm pittig. Het vooruitzicht is echter zo goed, dat het vol te houden is.
