Lomo-saturday

While in Normandy last summer, we’ve visited a few World War II memorial sites. It was impressive to see the places we’ve heard so much about in history lessons and to see the resting-place of the men that lost their lives fighting for Europe’s freedom.

These pictures are taken at the Normandy American Cemetery and Memorial and at Pointe du Hoc, one of the D-day beaches.

Afgelopen zomer in Normandië, bezochten we een aantal Tweede Wereldoorlog-gedenkplaatsen. Het was indrukwekkend om de plaatsen te zien waar we veel over hebben gehoord tijdens geschiedenislessen en om de laatste rustplaats te zien van zovelen die stierven voor de vrijheid van Europa.

Deze foto’s zijn gemaakt op het ‘Normandy American Cemetery and Memorial’ en op Pointe du Hoc, een van de stranden van D-day.

On a rainy day like today, I think back to our Normandy-holiday with a little nostalgia. Very close to our holiday home, was a castle. I love castles, especially the not so crowded ones, that are not totally renovated yet.

Op een regenachtige dag als vandaag, denk ik met een beetje heimwee terug aan onze vakantie in Normandië. Dichtbij ons vakantiehuisje was een kasteel. Ik hou van kastelen. Vooral als ze niet te drukbezocht zijn en niet al te opgepoetst.

Beautiful Decay

During a walk near our holiday home we came across a dilapidated bungalowpark. It seems like someone started a very ambitious project but wasn’t able to finish it. I think places like this are sad and beautiful at the same time. If you are intrigued like me, make sure you have a look at Johnny Knoxville’s documentary Detroit Lives.

Tijdens een wandeling vlakbij ons vakantiehuis kwamen we terecht bij een verlaten bungalowpark. Het leek alsof iemand een ambitieus project was gestart, maar niet de middelen had om het af te maken. Plekken als deze vind ik naargeestig en prachtig tegelijkertijd. Ben je net als ik geïntrigeerd door zulke verlaten plekken, bekijk dan zeker eens de documentaire Detroit Lives van Johnny Knoxville.

Vakantie

My T. and I went on a holiday trip to Normandy. We enjoyed the weather, the beach, cute villages, but also saw impressive remains and scars of the second World War. We cycled through the French landscape, I shot some analogue pictures and we both came home sunburnt. It was good.

Mijn T. en ik zijn op vakantie geweest naar Normandië. We genoten van het weer, de zee, schattige dorpjes, maar zagen ook indrukwekkende overblijfselen en littekens van de Tweede Wereldoorlog. We fietsten door het Franse landschap, ik schoot wat analoge foto’s en we kwamen allebei roodverbrand thuis. Het was fijn.
